STUNNING PERFORMANCE

I have waited a long time to see this show missing out last time it toured and it did not disappoint. The singing and dancing was phenomenal, Ian McIntosh's version of Gethsemane was out of this world it has to be the best vocals I've seen at any live theatre performance. Every single person on that stage was outstanding. When it finished all I wanted to do was sit and watch it again. Just amazing

Saw the show last night at the Empire. A truly awesome experience. The lyrics and music are as great as when they were first written. A huge thanks to all involved in the show. The artistes are brilliant. Every single performer gave their all and are hugely talented. The musicians played perfectly. The set was really impactive, costumes brought the show to date, make up really impactive. The staff at the Empire were so friendly and capable. We ordered break snacks to our seats, a really nice touch. All in all a great night, and an awesome show. Thank you all.

BEST SHOW EVER!

Went on opening night and was blown away. I have always loved the film versión of Superstar and didn’t think that this would be as good but it far surpassed it. The setting, the dancing and, above all, the vocals were stunning. The song " Gethsemane " left me in tears. I could watch this every night.

WHAT AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE

I first saw a production of this musical back in the 70s at the Empire. I was not disappointed with this one. Amazing choreography, staging and vocals. Fabulous appearance by Julian Clary as Herod which lifted the mood at the right time. Very intense finale. Truly an experience. It’s brilliant to have shows of this quality so close to home.

AMAZING

What an amazing performance, dancers. amazing, singing spectacular, a modern take on the story but breathtaking! Jesus, Mary, and judas WOW! Herod....... ( Julian clary) not so good! He didnt do the part justice, could gave spoilt the show, but, well worth seeing. Stick to pantomime Julian!

FANTASTIC

Absolutely fantastic, saw the film at the cinema when it first came out, bought the double album, seen a previous stage version, listen to it on Amazon music but this was amazing, strong voices, live band, great dance moves, costumes, set and lighting, very moving even though I am a commuted atheist! loved it to buts, thank you.

TOTALLY STUNNING PRODUCTION - HAVE BOOKED TO WATCH IT AGAIN

This was incredible - having grown up listening to the musical this totally blew this out of the water. Watched it with my parents in Nottingham and have since booked to watch it with my family in Southampton. Ian McIntosh as Jesus was the BEST EVER vocalist I've EVER heard in a show - I couldn't believe how incredible 'Gethsemane' was - so raw and powerful. Just WOW! Mary and Pontius Pilate were brilliant too. Dancers and musicians were great. All super talented! (Less keen on Judas - not because his voice wasn't incredible I just couldn't make out the words (thankfully I knew them all!) Ian Mackintosh - please don't miss the opening night in Southampton's Mayflower as I can't wait to hear you sing this all again!

AMAZING

First time seeing Jesus Christ Superstar in the theater and it was captivating. The voices of Jesus (Ian Mcintosh) & Mary (Hannah Richardson) were amazing. If I was free I would go see it again.

i went to bromley on the 20/02/2024 . watching a great actor owning the stage is so uplifting . ian mcintosh as jesus lifted the whole theatre . surely he is one of the biggest names to rise again in londons west end , i would truley recommend seeing the show

A primarily vocal performance. Stunning take on the original. Not one weak moment. Pilate particularly standout. I've seen 4 different versions of JCS and this was spectacular

INCREDIBLE SHOW

I had no expectation of this show, but I was familiar with the original movie. I was, however, excited to see Ian McIntosh as Jesus having just seen him in We Will Rock You. This show blew my mind from the first moment it started. My favourite performers are Ian as Jesus and Luke Street as Judas. Exceptional performances from Hannah, Ryan, Matt, Jad, Josh, Timo and Jordan!! Entire ensemble are fantastic. I have now seen it 8 times so far with 10 more shows booked throughout the UK!! By far my favourite musical ever (Les Mis excluded)

IF ONKY WE COULD HAVE HEARD THE LYRICS !

I went to see JCS in Manchester in September and loved it so much , went to see again in Liverpool. Disappointed on 2 issues- firdtly, you couldnt hear half of the lyrics in the group songs. They were drowned out by the volume. Also the clarity of Pilate"s and Judas's lyrics was lost which affected the whole continuity of the narrative. Secondly, Judas was very lacklustre , with no passion, and no performance of the chsracter"s torture. He hardly moved on the stage ( in contrast the singer who played Judas at Manchester was fantastic, I loved his energy and he displayed real emotion. Still, overall my favourite musical, and Ian McIntosh as Jesus is stunning with Gethsemane being a showstopper .Re really is a superstar!

AWESOME

Amazing production, Jesus, Mary unbelievable. Sadly almost impossible to hear Judas's lyrics as drowned out, no fault of his own making! Simple but very effective set. Great to see cast playng percussion and guitars.

SPEAKING OF JADED MANDARINS

A great show, packed with stellar performances but sadly let down by a jarring performance by Julian Clary quite probably the quintessential jaded mandarin performing as Herod, and providing a completely self promoting panto piece, right in the middle of a very poignant part of the show. The sets were brilliantly conceived and the singing was pure, clear and a joy to listen to. Be warned the seats in the great circle are skinny and bum numbing. Not recommended for a longer performance. But we were transported away by the production such that it was only a mild annoyance for 1hour and 55 minutes. We were grateful for the intermission though. Remove Clary and improve the seating and it's a easy 5 star event.

TOO STATIC

I'm afraid it made me pine for the 1998 London revival. There was little dynamism in this, with hand-held mikes more of an incumbrance than anything else. However, the singing was electrifying.

QUITE DISAPPOINTING.

Sadly I left at the interval as the dancing was a bit like watching a workout at a gym. Very gray outfits. Too many dancers on the stage. Not a patch 9n The Original I watched in the West End.

GLAD I'VE BEEN TO SEE IT BUT

I wouldn't go to watch it again. The performers were good but I found it dark and I didn't engage with it very well, I was expecting more and Im sorry but although Julian Clarys BRIEF appearance lightened the mood slightly I was very disappointed at how brief his appearance was. I wouldn't take my children to see it & as I usually go to the theatre with my adult daughter who was away on holiday today and couldn't attend I wouldnt recommend it to her OR take my mother? I attended the matinee performance and overall I was pleased with the theatre and my seat in the circle.The staff were pleasant and friendly so Thank You to them. My opinion of the show: Disappointing

EXCELLENT CHOREOGRAPHY AND SET.

I found the singing wasn’t as clear as other performances I have seen. No real stand out singers apart from Mary whose voice was clear and powerful and quite stunning. Judas’s suicide dealt with sensitivity but the crucifixion was quite brutal.

BRILLIANT MARY MAGDALENE, SOME AWFUL COSTUMES, AMATEUR CHOREOGRAPHY

The good: lead actor could act, singling ~OK. The actor who played Peter - great voice and acting; and also Pontius Pilot. The great: the actress who played Mary Magdalene was incredible - singling, acting was perfect and her stage presence was amazing: it was like no-one else was on the stage when she was on-stage. The bad: the actor who played Judas could not sing well (often flat) and nor could he act. For such a large part they should have picked someone who could.. sing and act. The awful: the costumes for the chorus/Disciples - looked like someone had grabbed them out of the £1 bargain basement at Primark. No thought given at all, just ludicrous. Also, these were in complete contrast in style with the costumes for the Pharisees ([old style]; and Pontius Pilot (OK costume). It was a jumbled mess, clearly no-one thought about it. The truly terrible: the choreography! Like it was done by someone doing their GCSE Drama - and failing it. Lloyd-Webber would have been embarassed

WHAT A LET DOWN

Watched at the empire from good seats very near the front however deeply disappointed with the show. Whilst sound was good and musically very good there where lots of Unclear lyrics especially from Judas and chorus , dull costumes and stage and apart from a few most where uninspiring performances. And who ever cast Julian Clary as Herod? He managed to turn it into a pantomime for his very brief 3 minutes. Was so looking forward to watching it and left feeling nothing but disappointment

Went to see it at Empire with my sister in law. Oh dear me it wasn't what we were expecting at all The show was trying to be urban and modern but it was just awful. We couldn't understand the songs, Julian Clary was stupid and overall it was like a school production. So disappointed.

DISAPPOINTING

Saturday Matinee - Liverpool Empire. The costumes and choreography were incomprehensible, as were most of the songs - the Mary Magdalen solo piece being an exception. Whilst there were some fine voices, Judas' was not one of them - far too hard on the ear. The use of mic stands was simply daft, and the Julian Clary cameo, whilst it brightened an otherwise very dull stage, and was amusing, was way over the top. Having seen this musical some 20+ years ago, and enjoyed it, this modern production was far too manic. Few of the principal performers had little stage presence and, overall, there was no 'heart' in this production. Several friends saw it on different days, and we all agreed that it was very disappointing. I would not recommend.

WORST VERSION BY A LONG WAY

Having seen the stage show JCSS many times, this was unfortunately the weakest attempt by some margin. Singing voices were not bad, but acting, storytelling, passion, characterisation all extremely weak. It’s a brilliant musical and hard to fail, but this did.

MAKE JESUS STAND OUT FOR GOD'S SAKE

Not for me. Jesus was poor in first half. Better in second. Judas tried hard but just could not cut it. Mary stole the show, great voice. Too much silly dancing. Did not like the guitars, what was that about. Make Jesus stand out for god's sake. We kept losing him. Very generic looking

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT EDINBURGH PLAYHOUSE

We were both incredibly disappointed by this production. The opening scene was completely lacklustre, and the whole first half’s story telling confusing. Jesus simply failed to offer a superstar feel throughout. Judas delivery was unintelligible. I simply could not make out a word he was singing. Pontius Pilate gave reasonable diction and excellent presence on stage. Mary Magdalene offered a strong performance too. The best scene of the night was Herods entrance and too short delivery. This was an unfortunate attempt at modernising an iconic theatre production, however the oft jarring music, static stage set and uncaptivating delivery by most, provided a disappointing experience.

DULL DARK AND DEEPLY DISAPPOINTING

Dull costumes, unclear diction esp Judas, Mary belted over Peter’s sweet but soft voice. Dancers crammed in ( tho the short lead dancer was full of wonderful energy ) and actors had no real room to move - very bad use of stage space . No outstanding singers , the Jesus’s light show solo and Herods razzmatazz short performance were momentary highlights. Confusing continuity of scenes that shift smoothly . And just way too dark a mood ( i know its not a happy ending , but still - its a 70s musical extravaganza. Had longed to see this as i love the music . Deeply disappointed . Hippodrome was lovely withbcriendly staff. Don't waste your money

SO DISAPPOINTING

went to opening night in Edinburgh, Seen this show in 1998 and 2000, have to say this show was really disappointing! The cast was all using mics to sing with, the sound was muffled and we could not understand a word. Jesus had no personality and to top it all x the biggest song of the night, Gesemane, was sung by a busking Jesus!!! I kid you not ! Very underwhelming, they have tried to modernise it too much, the set was boring, the costumes were grey and dull and the dancing was erratic. which in my opinion, ruined the authenticity and emotion! The worst being a busking Jesus who didn’t stand out. The only actor who did give good diction was Pontious Pilate x

BASEBALL CAPS AND HOODIES NOT FOR ME

Sorry, we did not last long in the theatre. Gave it 30mins and had enough. Could not make out the words of early songs. Did not catch my attention early. probably tried to compare it with versions of the past. Cannot please everyone but this sadly was not for us.

DREADFUL

Apart from garbled lyrics, dull costumes, keef fit class type dancing and screeching from all the main cast, the seats were relatively comfy, I would have left at half time but felt the second half must improve. It didn't apart from somebody should have shouted "he's behind you" with Herods pantomime solo. The public are easily pleased if they think that is entertainment. Give it a miss.
